Th
Concept (Titanik Extra-Version)

The two exhibitions (E-V1 + E-V2) reflect a body of work sonically exploring the surrounding environment of nature and life around 2000 -2012 (mostly collaborative projects with visual/performance artists).

The title of the exhibition - “Extra-Version” - is in fact a subversion – dictionaries tell us that being an extrovert is being much more interested in our surrounding environment than internally about ourselves.
However, careful listening to our environment can enable us to discover as much about ourselves, and our place in nature, as we can about the macro and micro organisms of our surroundings.

The extrovert can become introvert, and then again to extrovert – beginning a cycle (sonically, and in life)

Techniques:
Sound is actively captured in the real world – during walks and other journeys – which can be very simple, and often as an unnoticed observer. A passion is to care for the sounds, and to find different ways and places for the sounds to exist and live

Familiar objects from everyday life are made into instruments – typically using either percussive or vibrational devices and contact mics. Acoustic piano, digital and synthesised sounds can add to the layers, and improvisation expression.

A key moment was meeting a mysterious character in the darkness outside the cathedral early in the residency, and who persisted in handing me a powerful leaflet
